If your ears need it, the wax is removed using microsuction or hand instruments, whichever suits the wax on the day. Most appointments are straightforward; if the wax is very hard, you may be asked to soften it with drops and come back.
If you can, use olive oil drops for a day or two before your appointment to soften the wax, though it is not essential. You can ask to see what is removed if you would like to.
