We are a UK-wide directory of earwax removal practitioners, built to make the credentials behind each clinic visible to patients before they call. This page sets out why the directory exists, the principles we run it on, and who is behind it.
Find a clinic near youThe UK earwax removal market is fragmented. Some practitioners are registered with statutory bodies, others are not. Equipment is openly available. Training varies. Patients booking earwax removal for the first time have very little to go on. We exist to fix that asymmetry - to show each clinic's professional background, registration, methods, indemnity confirmation and pricing in a consistent format, so that the patient is not the one doing the detective work.
Earwax removal in the UK has changed considerably in the last decade. The NHS's move away from routine ear care in primary care has meant that most patients who need wax removed now pay for it privately. That has been matched by an explosion in the number of clinics offering the service - hearing centres, ENT practices, pharmacies, nurse-led clinics, beauty salons, mobile practitioners, and standalone earwax-only operations.
Some of those providers are excellent. Some are not. The picture is genuinely mixed, and the absence of any single regulator covering "earwax removal" as a procedure means that the patient is left to make sense of it themselves. The standards on display vary enormously from one website to the next, and the credentials behind a service are often the hardest piece of information to find.
We started the directory because the patients calling our own clinics consistently said the same thing: "I had no idea what to look for, so I just picked the one near me." That seemed like a problem worth solving - not by ranking practitioners or rating them, but by laying the information out clearly so the patient could do their own judging.
The Earwax Clinic Network is a transparency directory. We do four things:
For the detailed process and standards, see our page on how we list practitioners.
Four principles shape every editorial and operational decision the directory makes.
Registration with a statutory body provides an accountability route, not a competence guarantee. A registered practitioner has standards to meet and a regulator the patient can complain to. An unregistered practitioner may be highly capable, but the accountability route is different. We surface both kinds honestly. Where a practitioner is on a register, we show it. Where they are not, we show the equivalent training and oversight. The patient decides which they trust.
We do not rank practitioners, we do not rate them, and we do not endorse one above another. Each listing shows the same fields in the same format, neutrally, so that the patient can compare what matters to them. This makes the directory less editorially loud than some alternatives, and we are comfortable with that. The job is information, not opinion.
Some pages on this site contradict positions the directory could profitably hold. Our page on home earwax removal explains when home kits work and acknowledges that for many situations they are reasonable. Our page on ear candles tells patients clearly that candles do not work, even though some clinics offer them. The reason is straightforward: the value we offer is honest information. If we trade that for short-term revenue we do not have a long-term proposition.
Listed clinics pay a fee to be on the directory. Patient access is free, with no patient charge anywhere on the site. When a clinic's interests and a patient's interests diverge - inaccurate information, misleading marketing, a fitness-to-practise sanction we learn about - the directory acts in the patient's interest. The first responsibility is to the people who use the directory, not to the businesses paying to be listed.
The Earwax Clinic Network is owned and operated by The Hearing Lab Store Ltd, a UK-registered audiology business founded in 2013. The founders are Paul Nand, an HCPC-registered hearing aid dispenser, and Iram Darr, a BSc (Hons) audiologist who has worked across the NHS and private sector. Between them they have more than a decade of running clinics, supplying equipment to clinics, and training other practitioners. The day-to-day editorial of the directory sits with Paul.
The connection to a working audiology business is deliberate. It means the people running the directory understand the market it covers, see patients themselves, and know the difference between a clinic offering reasonable care and one that is not. It also means we have skin in the game - the directory carries the reputation of a wider business, and we would lose more than just this site if we operated it carelessly.
The Hearing Lab Store - which owns and operates the directory - also supplies equipment and consumables to many UK earwax removal clinics, including some that are listed on the directory. We mention this directly because it is the kind of relationship that would otherwise be a fair question to ask. The directory listing fee and the equipment supply business are operated separately, and listing on the directory does not depend on being a customer of The Hearing Lab Store, or vice versa. The patient-facing directory is run on its own merits.
It is worth being clear about a few things the directory does not claim to be.
For anything to do with a specific clinic - booking, prices, methods - the contact form on the clinic's listing or the tracked phone number reaches the clinic directly. For anything to do with the directory itself - questions about a listing, concerns to raise, suggestions, or press enquiries - use the contact form on this site, or email us at [email protected]. We aim to respond within two working days.
Practitioners looking to list their clinic should visit our page on how we list practitioners for the registration process and the standards we work to.
Each clinic profile shows you which register or professional body the listed practitioner is on.
CQC registration is required for any clinic offering earwax removal to people under 19, outside of a school or academy setting.
The icons above are non-official verification marks. They do not imply endorsement by any regulator or professional body.
No. The directory is operated by The Hearing Lab Store Ltd, a UK-registered private business. The directory lists private clinics offering earwax removal, and where relevant, NHS services that accept self-referral - but the directory itself is not part of the NHS or any government body.

Because many capable practitioners operate outside the statutory registers - often experienced practitioners who have stepped back from formal registration because the bureaucracy and cost have come to outweigh the benefit. Registration is not a guarantee of skill, only of accountability. We surface all practitioners and explain which sit where, so the patient can decide. See our page on who can remove earwax in the UK.
Listed clinics pay per call they receive from our website. Patient access to the directory is free. The fee covers the database infrastructure, the tracked phone lines, the editorial work behind the site, and the operational team that handles registrations, updates and concerns. It does not buy preferential placement or different treatment.
Yes, please. Email us with the clinic details and we will reach out to them about joining the directory. The clinic decides whether to register - we cannot list a clinic without their participation - but suggestions are useful and we follow them up.
Each listing on our directory shows the practitioner's background, registration where they hold it, methods offered, and indicative pricing. Search by postcode to see what is available locally.

At the Ear Wax Clinic, we pride ourselves on being the leading ear wax removal specialists in the UK. We are dedicated to providing professional, safe, and effective solutions for people suffering from ear wax buildup. Our team of highly skilled audiologists and ear wax removal technicians have years of experience in the field, ensuring you receive the best possible care for your ears.
Our journey began with a simple goal: to help people find relief from the discomfort and hearing issues caused by ear wax build-up. As we delved into the world of ear care, we discovered that many traditional methods for ear wax removal, like ear candling, were not only ineffective but potentially harmful.
After extensive research, we decided to focus on offering safer and more effective treatments like microsuction and irrigation. Our commitment to excellence and passion for helping people led to the establishment of the Ear Wax Clinic, which now has multiple partners and locations across the UK.
We understand that each person's ear care needs are unique. That's why we offer a variety of treatments to address different types and degrees of ear wax buildup.
Microsuction is a safe and gentle method of removing ear wax. It involves using a tiny vacuum-like device to suction out the ear wax, without the need for water or any other liquids. To learn more about how microsuction works, check out our How Microsuction Works page.
We are also proud to offer professional microsuction training for audiologists and healthcare professionals who want to expand their skillset and provide this essential service to their patients. Learn more about our microsuction training opportunities.
Another popular treatment we provide is ear irrigation, which involves using a controlled flow of water to flush out the ear wax. This method is safe and effective for most people, and you can learn more about it on our How Irrigation Works page.
We understand that sometimes it's not possible to visit one of our clinics, so we also offer home ear wax removal solutions. Our Ultimate Home Ear Wax Removal Guide provides comprehensive information on how to safely remove ear wax at home.
If you're considering a home syringe kit, it's essential to understand the differences between using a kit and seeking professional care. Visit our Home Syringe Kit vs. Professional Care page to learn more.

Earwax, also known as cerumen, is produced inside your ears to keep them clean and free of germs. It usually passes out of the ears harmlessly, but sometimes too much can build up and block the ears.
It protects the skin of the human ear canal, assists in cleaning and lubrication, and also provides some protection from bacteria, fungi, insects and water. In other words, ear wax is a good thing!
The amount of ear wax that the body produces differs from person to person, the amount that is retained within the ear also differs for each of us - these differences are for a number of reasons:
Many people will produce a small amount of wax their whole lives, which leaves the ear canal naturally, and never have any problem with it. For others, their ear will produce a larger amount of wax, which will not fully leave the ear canal and will become blocked, which leads to them having reduced hearing ability and also a blocked feeling in the ear.
Our micro suction and irrigation treatments help those who have excessive ear wax that is causing a blockage and resulting in a hearing loss or unpleasant feeling in the ear.
Earwax Removal by microsuction is the safest possible way to do it, because the professional can always see what they are doing.
Microsuction earwax removal is the quickest process for ear cleaning, usually lasting no longer than twenty minutes.
Micro suction is a completely dry and sterile procedure and therefore has a much lower infection risk than any water methods
Earwax Removal by irrigation is a very safe method of ear cleaning. The water is at a low pressure and there is no syringe.
Irrigation earwax removal is a usually a quick process for ear cleaning, usually lasting no longer than a few minutes an ear.
Irrigation is an excellent method of removing earwax. It completely washes your ear clean.
